NOTE: Since this post, “Rose” and “Penny” have been released in a volume together. The books are free at Innocent Journeys.
If you’ve read Innocent Lives, you might be a fan of Rose. She’s the “mini-mama” of the farmhouse brothel where Jasmine lands and has been there the longest. She has adopted the other gals in a way, and makes it a point to befriend the new ones to try and make the hard life a little easier.
Rose is also very stubborn. She isn’t afraid to stand up to her owners and although she chooses her battles carefully, we see her take action a few times in Innocent Lives for the sake of others. So when she gets sick and the owners refuse to care for her, we see Jasmine/Bay take up the cause to care for Rose.
Eventually Rose shares a secret with Jasmine/Bay that no one else knows. And she asks her to do something about it when Jasmine/Bay is released from captivity. Rose assures the younger girl that she WILL be released, and that there are angels watching out for her.
Many have wondered Rose’s story. How did she get to the farmhouse brothel and how did this big secret even happen? Most importantly, where is the little girl that is the result of her secret? Is she safe?
As you can probably guess by now, Rose’s story wasn’t done in my head yet either. Unlike Cienna and Jasmine, she was not kidnapped. She arrives at the farmhouse brothel in the most common way that happens with trafficking. Her story includes domestic violence in her early years and later in her intimate relationship. Although the issue of her child will be addressed in Guardians of Grace Books 2 and 3, I admired Rose’s grace and grit and wanted to know more too!
